Sex Worker Wellness Circle
SW Wellness Circle
Support the mental wellness of sex workers. Cultivate community rooted in care and respect. Offer somatic and mindfulness techniques to assist sex workers in grounding and trauma support.
Sex workers are often isolated and lack adequate access to mental health support. We wanted to offer a free service to bridge this gap and create an affinity wellness space centered on care and dignity.
- Bring awareness that services are available and accessible to sex workers
- Increase sex workers' awareness of grounding exercises and somatic techniques
- Decrease sex workers' feelings of isolation and promote adaptive responses to stressors
Selena, Mari, and Soujin all assisted in programming. The session was held via Zoom in collaboration with the LAST Collective. The group offered a group-therapy-style support group with a closing meditation and specially curated mindfulness exercise. Future events will continue in collaboration with the LAST Collective.
Sex workers were able to enjoy an affinity wellness space. Participants reported feeling seen and supported. Sex workers received cognitive reframing of presenting problems and enjoyed a specially curated mindfulness exercise. The group created a safe space for candid reflection on work, relationships, boundaries, and identity.
"It's important to have spaces where you can express the different parts of yourself. The things monetarily valued at the club are things that are not important to me. Client relationships can be clearer and safer than personal relationships."
Sliding scale / free access. Virtual via Zoom. No barriers to participation for sex workers of any kind, including those retired or on hiatus.
Videos and reels performed significantly better than static posts. More extensive social media promotion is needed for future events — we will benefit from LAST's support for outreach. Great event overall with good attendance and rich insights shared by participants.
Next campaign: June 10 at 5 PM. This wellness program supports SU in building a documented wellness program — useful for grants, community support, and building alliances. Supporters can be added to an email list and kept in the loop for future programming.
